At the SfN annual meeting I met up with Thomas Nowotny whom I knew from his time at UCSD. He just got a job in Brighton at the University of Sussex and invited me to give a talk there on November 21st. I'm really looking forward to it as I will meet again George and Ildiko Kemenes as well as Paul Benjamin, all fellow invertebrate neuroscientists.

Today, I received a call by Volker Lange from WissKomm, a German organisation for the communication of science to the public. He will send a camera team over on Wednesday or so and shoot some footage about my setup and apparently also about my support of the OpenAccess movment and my involvement in PLoS One. Or something like that, lol blush.png Anyway, check out their videos at YouTube or SciVee! This is going to be interesting!

Last but not least, I received an email by Eve Boginski who is an undergraduate student majoring in economics and currently working for the dean of economics here at the Freie Universität in Berlin, Prof. Dr. Jörg Sydow. Aparently, her job is to interview biologists about their involvement in OpenAcces or digital publications in general and then present her results to fellow students interviewing scientists in other areas. I'm looking forward to that interview as well (Monday next week).

Then there's the job interview at the LMU in Munich at the end of the month, so together with the teaching I'll be doing here, the remainder of November will be very active with plenty of new contacts to people both within this and other ivory towers and outside. specs.png
