This third session was right after the one I was in. I had been talking about the mutant radish and how it changes the attention and activity of the flies. It started at 8.30pm, showing the dedication of all the participants. The whole session was all about mushroom-bodies. First, Gaia Tavosanis showed us a lot of beautiful pictures of the clawed Kenyon cells of the MBs and some aspects of the mechanisms how they form around the projection neurons coming from the antennal lobes. Next up was Guillaume Isabel telling us about new data on the interaction between different memory processes (anaesthesia resistant memory and long-term memory) taking place in the Kenyon cells during aversive classical olfactory conditioning. The final speaker of the day was Julien Séjourné teling us about some of the first groups of mushroom‐body efferent neurons involved in aversive memory retrieval. Now it is almost 10pm and high time for a rewarding beer to let the evening slowly pass into the night.
