I'm resharing this as it pertains to the discussion of scientific publishing reform. Clay hits the nail on the head in that filtering at the source is now obsolete. In scientific terms, traditional journals à la Nature, Science, and the other 24,000 journals will become obsolete soon, as new methods of filtering and channeling become available. It's for a completely different audience, but Clay makes a perfect case for the extinction of scientific journals.
