Sidemarkers are not really allowed in Germany. But the indicators need to be visible form the side. So I decided to change the red/amber sidemarkers to clear ones and hook them up as blinkers with amber bulbs. Simultansously I replaced the parking light/blinker with white bulbs and moved the blinker component in the unused little outside compartment in the parking light assembly.

The Miata comes with amber sidemarkers on the front and red sidemarkewrs on the rear. Both do not blink with the indicator.

The front indicator is only the amber parking light getting dimmer and brighter (with parking lights on).

In the front, I simply changed them to clear ones and added a wire so they'd be blinkers and not sidemarkers any more. At the same time, the parking lights always switch on both filaments in the bulb and are much brighter now. The small, unused compartment in the parking light assembly now houses a blinker light as well (as you can see in the big picture).

In the rear, it was more complicated. There are only front sidemarkers available on the market. Those are too wide for the rear, so I had to cut them in half with my Dremel and sand them down to the right width.

Now front and rear look the same and both blink with the indicator (4 lights on each side):
