After spending a good part of the past weekend (actually all of it except the time I needed to play our game this past Sunday and preparing for today's experiments) answering questions from journalists about our upcoming PLoS One paper on spontaneous activity in fruit flies (see previous post), I got more phonecalls and emails today. This time, two German-speaking journalists approached me, one from the Austrian newspaper "Die Presse" and one, believe it or not, from the German edition of Vanity Fair, of all places.
At the same time, the professor here at the institute, Randolf Menzel, was very upset with how we linked our results from a small fly to something as big as "free will" (I of course tend to disagree with that somewhat). He was also contacted by one of the journalists and apparently told him how little he thought of our work. We'll see what comes of that
