Are the world religions out in some sort of weird contest trying to compete for the most stupid and outrageous things a human could possibly say while keeping a straight face??
Judging from some of their representatives, one could sure get the impression. Initially, I thought this was a sport among fundamentalist christians in the US, making claims about all kinds of weird things such as that the world was created by some deity at a time when in fact we have good documentation that humans were already sailing the seas and had invented glue. Others think that the sun revolves around a fixed earth. But the Crazy Christians(TM) are not alone! They now have competition from the Mentally Challenged Muslims(TM). On Iraqi TV (Courtesy of MEMRI TV.), there's a guy who claims that both sun and earth are flat and that it's the Koran which tells him that. He also flatly rejects anything which is not covered by the Koran as heretical - wonder if that includes TV?

Some quotes from Fadhel Al-Sa’d's interview:

Fadhel Al-Sa’d, Iraqi researcher on astronomy : The Koranic verse that I have just recited – “The breadth of Paradise is as the breadth of the heavens and earth” – attests to the fact that the Earth is flat.

[...]

So far, no doctor has succeeded in understanding how the eye works. [...] If we split the iris into half, we see with the upper half things that are far, and with the lower half things that are near.

[...]

The sun circles the Earth because it is smaller than the Earth, as is evident in Koranic verses.

[...]

Have you ever seen how the sun moves? I have seen the sun moving. The sun makes one move every 24 hours.

[...]

What I say is based on Koranic science. He bases his arguments on the kind of science that I reject categorically – the modern science that they teach in schools. This science is a heretic innovation that has no confirmation in the Koran. No verse in the Koran indicates that the Earth is round or that it rotates. Anything that has no indication in the Koran is false.
The piece about the eye is interesting - bees' eyes work in a somewhat related way, but the human eye certainly doesn't. He just makes these things up, lol tooth.png

Now please tell me, is there some sport going on and I'm the only one who doesn't know? If so, what's the prize and why isn't everybody else laughing?
