Tom Capo is the head of the National Resource for Aplysia and gave a talk about the potentials and problems of hatchery reared Aplysia.
Tom told us how difficult it was 20 years ago to get the animal culture to a high-level of quality and productivity. The largest bottlenecks were larval development and juvenile and adult food supply. In ten years the facility grew from just over ten thousand animals shipped to over 30,000 shipped animals per year.
Then he showed us a great video of all the developmental stages of Aplysia. Beautiful! Those juvenile animals are so cute!
